2005 was not too great a year, healthwise, for Patrick E. Zatloukal. We were 'determined' that 2006 had to be better, to the extent that for the first time ever, I bought some black eyed peas to have on New Year's Day (it is supposed to bring good luck for the New Year.) I am not normally an overly superstitious person, but I figured "it couldn't hurt".
New Year's Eve, the very last day of 2005, Patrick was admitted to the hospital with complications from the bladder cancer.
Still, I made the peas and toted a bowlful up to the hospital for him to try to eat. He managed a couple of bites and I think that should count for something. We don't yet know the extent of these complications or what the doctors will have to do to correct them, but it was a typical end to a year filled with one health crisis after another.
An update posted on January 7, 2006 -
On January 5th, Patrick had to have surgery to find out why his bladder was bleeding and doctors discovered he has a perferation in his bladder. They have done what they can to try to stop the bleeding and let the tear heal on it's own. They also discovered he has some kind of blockage in his right kidney and on Monday, January 9th, they will have to do more surgery to find out what is going on there.
We thank everyone who has him in their prayers, they are very much appreciated and needed at this time.
